Failure to Appear Suspension
What does failure to appear suspension mean? This is different than a failure to comply suspension. This is entered by the Court when you fail to appear (FTA) for a trial date. For example, you receive a speeding ticket and you requested a waiver hearing or trial. By the way, you should always elect a trial over a waiver hearing for payable traffic tickets in Maryland.
You requested a trial or waiver hearing and you failed to appear for that trial date. When the Judge calls your name and you don’t stand up, the Judge will enter a Failure to Appear for your case. The Court will then notify the MVA that you failed to appear for Court and they will suspend your license or privilege to drive. You will then have to pay the fine at one of the District Courts in Maryland or you could pay the fine and request a new trial date. You must pay the fine, and you have to pay the full amount for all of the tickets, and then you can request a new trial date. You must also pay the full fine and request the trial date 120 days from the original trial date.
