Maryland State Police Make Significant Arrests on Cinco De Mayo 2014

TROOPERS ARREST SCORES OF IMPAIRED DRIVERS DURING CINCO DE MAYO ENFORCEMENT

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested almost eight times more impaired drivers this Monday compared to a week ago during Cinco de Mayo traffic enforcement.

Statewide, troopers arrested 81 impaired drivers and issued 721 citations and 1,166 warnings for speed violations. Troopers began Occupant Safety Awareness month by issuing 139 citations and 228 warnings for seatbelt violations.

Troopers from each state police installation as well as the State Police Impaired Driving Effort (S.P.R.I.D.E.) worked a variety of enforcement programs on May 5, 2014. These initiatives included DUI saturation patrols as well as patrols focused on aggressive and distracted driving.

The Maryland State Police remind motorists that impaired drivers and aggressive drivers are a danger to Maryland roads. Aggressive or impaired driving will not get you to your destination any faster, both may kill you or someone else in the process. Troopers will continue to conduct initiatives throughout the summer and strict enforcement will continue.
